Javier Ballesteros Wins Madrid Amateur Open

Javier Ballesteros, son of golf legend Seve, has won the amateur Madrid Open.

The 22-year-old finished six-under-par to win by four shots. His golfing success follows on from his first appearance in a professional event at the Peugeot Alps de Barcelona tournament in April where he finished tied for 12th, 12 shots behind winner Pablo Larrazabal.

He dedicated the victory to his late father, a five-time major champion, who died in 2011 after a long batter with brain cancer. “My father always told me that you have to play with what you’ve got, and that’s what I did,” Javier said. “I thought about him a lot during the 18 holes and I dedicate this victory to him and my mother.”

The win is his biggest to date, and he plans to follow in his father’s footsteps by turning professional once he graduates from his Law degree at Madrid’s Complutense University.
