Betting Tips and TV Times for the Waste Management Phoenix Open

The PGA Tour heads to the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale for this year’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, one of the most iconic and well-attended stops on the schedule thanks to its unique atmosphere. 

Last year, Rickie Fowler claimed his fifth PGA Tour title, while Gary Woodland stole hearts after teaming up with Special Olympics golfer Amy Brockerstette to play the infamous 16th hole ahead of the tournament. 

Both Fowler and Woodland return this week as seven of the World’s top 20 tee up in the 132-man field, but who should you back?

Waste Management Phoenix Open: Betting Tips 

Jon Rahm: 13/2
Arguably the hottest player on the planet right now, Rahm has two wins and has finished worse than T13 just once (a MC at the Alfred Dunhill Links) in his last 15 starts, which includes a runner-up finish at last week’s Farmers Insurance Open. He also has a great record in this event, finishing T10 last year, T11 in 2018, T16 in 2017 and T5 in 2015. 

Justin Thomas: 9/1
JT kicked off 2020 with victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions – his third win in seven starts on Tour – before missing his first cut since the U.S Open last week at Torrey Pines. Like Rahm, Thomas has been on exceptional form in the past few months, having not finished outside the top 20 in 11 starts prior to the Farmers Insurance Open. Despite that, he will come here with confidence following a T3 finish last year (record: T3-T17-MC-MC-T17)

Webb Simpson: 14/1
Another player heading to Phoenix in brilliant form, and hasn’t recorded a worse finish than T30 since the WGC Dell Match Play last March. So far this new season has a T7 at The Shriners, lost in a play-off at the RSM Classic, was T10 at the Hero World Challenge and was 3rd in his last start at the Sony Open. Six top 20s (including four top 10s) in eight starts at TPC Sawgrass.

Hideki Matsuyama: 16/1
A T45 at last week’s Farmers Insurance Open followed a brilliant spell for Mastuyama, where he posted three top 10s, a T11, T12 and T16 in a span of six events. This has always been a strong tournament for the Japanese star, who had finished 4th and 2nd here before back-to-back victories in 2016 and 2017, and was T15 last year (he WD in 2018). 

Rickie Fowler: 16/1
The defending champion is a combined 61-under-par here in the last five years, which is the best of any player during that span, having gone 1-T11-T4-2 in his last four outings. MC last week at Torrey Pines but went T5 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and T10 at the The American Express before that. 

Xander Schauffele: 18/1
Schauffele has been knocking on the door of a victory of late, finishing second three times in his last seven starts at the Tour Championship, WGC HSBC Champions and Sentry Tournament of Champions (and also has two T10s in that span). He missed the cut last week but will be looking to rebound here, having gone T17-T10 in two appearances. 

Matt Kuchar: 22/1
Kuchar is definitely one to watch this week. He has gone T9-T5-T4 in his last three starts at TPC Scottsdale, and comes to the Phoenix Open after rebounding from a MC at the Sony Open with victory in Singapore. 

Brandt Snedeker: 28/1
Starting 2020 strongly, Snedeker finished T12 in his first start since October at the Sony Open, and followed it with a T3 at last week’s Farmers Insurance Open. Looking for his first top 10 since 2015, having gone T33-T23-T55 in his last three appearances. 

Gary Woodland: 28/1
Missed the cut last week but prior to that had posted four top 10s and a T20 in his last five starts, including a T7 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the start of the year. Has had a lot of success here, winning the title in 2018 and recording a T7 finish here last year. 

Collin Morikawa: 28/1
Comes to the Phoenix Open with five consecutive top 25s, including a T7 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and back-to-back T21s at both the Sony Open and Farmers. Makes debut here this week, and ranks 11th SG: Tee to green so far this season.

Bubba Watson: 30/1
After a disappointing start to the season, Watson returned for his first start of 2020 at the Farmers Insurance Open and finished T6. He also has four top fives in his last eight starts at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, including a T4 last year. 

Branden Grace: 35/1
After struggling for much of last season, Grace turned a corner with a T3 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship before picking up his first win in more than two years at the South African Open, and was T17 in Abu Dhabi two weeks ago. Returns to Phoenix Open after finishing 2nd in his first appearance last year.

Sungjae Im: 33/1
The 2019 PGA Tour rookie of the year picked up his first win at the Genesis Open, and has continued to impress – with a T3 at the ZOZO Championship and T10 at The American Expresss two weeks ago before a T36 at the Farmers Insurance Open. Was T7 here on his debut last year. 

Ryan Palmer: 45/1
Flying a little under the radar heading to Phoenix despite two top 10s, a T12, T17 and T21 in his last five starts on Tour – the latter coming at Torrey Pines last week. He’s a little bit of a gamble given recent results here (T60-MC-MC-T24), but then again he was the runner-up in 2015 and finished 5th in 2013.
