Bubba Watson says he plans make LIV Golf captaincy 'like the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup'.

Life after LIV? Not for Bubba Watson, who is targeting a fresh future role in the league.

Bubba Watson is at LIV Golf for the long haul. The two-time Masters champion defected from the PGA Tour in 2023 to set up the RangeGoats franchise, and although he and his team have struggled to find sustained success, Watson sees his future nowhere else.

Fresh off a second-place behind Joaquin Niemann at last week’s LIV Golf UK event at JCB Golf & Country Club – the 46-year-old’s best finish on the league – Watson was asked about whether we could see non-playing captains on LIV in the years to come.

Speaking to The Mirror, Watson said: “We have talked about it before. I think it will evolve as we get older.

“I think we might stand on the tee box like a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, where you can say, ‘Hey, hit this club’, where you can talk to them and try to help them.

“I will still be the captain and owner. Unless someone wants to buy the team from me, I will still be the owner and be out here.

“I will be showing up to tournaments just like any other owner in sports.”

As part of this planned role, Watson hopes to continue to help younger players on his team. From new recruits finding their feet to more established players looking for some life advice, Watson is ready and willing to share his words of wisdom.

“For me, it looks like mentoring young kids,” he continued. “When I say young, I’ve got Matt Wolff, who is 26, Peter Uihlein is 35, and Ben Campbell is 31. They are younger than I am, so they can ask me questions.

“I can teach them about life. I’ve been married for 21 years, and they can ask me about anything, and I can help them.

“Maybe show them my mistakes, where they can improve, and show them what they have done well. That is what I love about it. As I get older, I want younger guys, I want the RangeGoats to be around, and I want to be a part of it. I want to be out there like an F1 owner that shows up at the races.”
