Collin Morikawa makes shock change as winless run goes on

A six-year relationship has been ended as Collin Morikawa looks to resolve recent struggles to get over the line on the PGA Tour…
Collin Morikawa has made a surprise change to his backroom team after just one win in three and a half years.
The World No.4’s win at the Zozo Championship at the end of 2023 has been his only title since lifting the DP World Tour Championship two years prior.
As a result, Morikawa has decided to part ways with long-time caddie JJ Jakovac.
Breaking the news on his SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show, Colt Knost said: “I wasn’t totally sold that this did happen because it’s so shocking to me, but I did just get confirmation.”
So who will replace Jakovak? A man who himself was recently let go by Max Homa.
Added Knost: “We now have Joe Greiner – who was not unemployed for very long – picking up the bag starting next week at the Truist Championship.
“But I’ll be honest, when I first heard it, I was like, ‘There’s no way this is true!’ This is a team that have won two major championships together, have had such a great run. They seem to play good every single week. But things change. Morikawa has not won since 2023 [and] Greiner is regarded as one of the best caddies out there.”
Jakovac had been on Morikawa’s bag for his entire professional career, helping the Californian win three PGA Tour titles, one DP World Tour title, a World Golf Championship, and two majors – the 2020 PGA Championship and the following year’s Open at Royal St George’s.
As a sidenote, the pair also technically “won” last year’s PGA Tour Championship at East Lake, though were edged out by Scottie Scheffler due to the tournament’s handicap system.
They had a good start to this year, too, with two runner-up finishes, a T10 and two T17s complemented by a tie for 14th at the Masters.
Jakovak also had a moment to remember at The Players when he became the first bagman to have a hole-in-one at TPC Sawgrass’s iconic par-3 17th during the traditional Caddie Contest.
But Morikawa obviously decided it was time for a change and Greiner, who caddied for Justin Thomas at Augusta after his split from Homa, will now take the reins.
