The first round of the new FedEx Cup bonuses have been paid out – and it’s once again good news for Scottie Scheffler.
The system was revamped earlier this year when the PGA Tour announced that the pot – which previously saw the FedEx Cup champion scoop the $25 million – would be split into three, the first of which would be distributed after the culmination of the regular season.
What didn’t change, however, was the Comcast Business Top 10, which offers $40 million split among the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings following the Wyndham Championship.
This means 10 players – eight of whom didn’t even tee up at Sedgefield Country Club – woke up on Monday with a few more million thrown on the pile…
FedEx Cup bonus payouts: Round 1
POSITION | PLAYER | FEDEX CUP BONUS | COMCAST TOP 10 | TOTAL |
1 | Scottie Scheffler | $10,000,000 | $8,000,000 | $18,000,000 |
2 | Rory McIlroy | $4,000,000 | $6,000,000 | $10,000,000 |
3 | Sepp Straka | $1,200,000 | $4,800,000 | $6,000,000 |
4 | Russell Henley | $1,000,000 | $4,400,000 | $5,400,000 |
5 | Justin Thomas | $800,000 | $4,000,000 | $4,800,000 |
6 | Ben Griffin | $700,000 | $3,400,000 | $4,100,000 |
7 | Harris English | $650,000 | $2,800,000 | $3,450,000 |
8 | J.J. Spaun | $600,000 | $2,400,000 | $3,000,000 |
9 | Tommy Fleetwood | $550,000 | $2,200,000 | $2,750,000 |
10 | Keegan Bradley | $500,000 | $2,000,000 | $2,500,000 |
The next FedEx Cup bonus will be paid out after the BMW Championship – the second of the three playoff events – with the player top of the standings scooping $5 million, while the third payout will take place after the Tour Championship at East Lake, with the last man standing scooping $10 million.
It’s going to take some effort to overhaul Scheffler in first. The recently-crowned Open champion is a whopping 1,362 points ahead of second-placed Rory McIlroy.
