Grant Horvat has turned down the opportunity to play in this week’s Barracuda Championship… and his reasons have divided opinion.
After being offered a spot in the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship, YouTube golf sensation Grant Horvat has revealed why he turned down a chance many would have jumped at.
Horvat, formerly of Good Good Golf, has established himself as a huge name online, boasting nearly 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube.
Such is his popularity and the growing willingness for professional tours, major championships and governing bodies to work with social media stars, he was given a rare opportunity to tee it up in a PGA Tour event.
But Horvat will have to wait to make his debut in a professional tournament after finding out he wouldn’t be able to document the experience for his army of fans and subscribers.
“Unfortunately I will not be playing in a PGA Tour event,” Horvat wrote on X. “The rules and regulations around PGA Tour tournament play will not allow us to film.
“The only reason I was in the position to receive an invitation like this is because of YouTube and you all watching the videos, so if I’m going to play, we want [to] film it.
“I am hopeful that this won’t always be the case. I would be honored to play in a PGA Tour event and bring you all along in the future. Huge thank you to the Barracuda for the invite and belief in YouTube golf.”
His decision has seemingly split opinion based on the replies to his post.
Brian Kirschner of Inside Sports Network said: “Dude people want to see how you stack up, not everything has to be for numbers on YouTube.
“Just play some golf man…”
Others included…
But there were messages of support, too…
The 26-year-old American has filmed videos with some of the biggest names in the game, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm.
