Resident betting expert Tom Jacobs picks out his top Italian Open betting tips ahead of the DP World Tour event…

The 2025 DP World Tour season springs back into action following a one-week break after the conclusion of the US Open at the infamous Oakmont.

The 82nd running of the Italian Open from Argentario Golf Club in Monte Argentario marks the penultimate stop of the tour’s European swing, where Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan enjoys a healthy 282-point lead, putting him in prime postion to claim a bonus cheque of $200,000 and an exemption into the lucrative the Back 9 events of the season.

Last year saw German Marcel Siem secure his sixth DP World Tour title after edging out Tom McKibbin via a playoff after the pair finished tied on 10-under par.

Before revealing who I’m backing for the week, here’s everything else you need to know…

Marcel Siem celebrates his sixth European Tour win at the Italian Open.

Italian Open betting tips

The Longshot: Bernd Wiesberger 100/1 (General 6 Places)

It’s been a long time since Bernd Wiesberger was known as one of the best DP World Tour players, and the 2021 Ryder Cup will feel like a lifetime ago for the Austrian, who has been in and out of form since.

Wiesberger took some time away from the DP World Tour to play on LIV between 2022 and the start of 2024, but he’s shown flashes of brilliance since returning to the DP World Tour, including when 2nd at the 2024 European Open, and both 7th at the KLM and 6th the Czech Masters in the same year.

2025 hasn’t been as fruitful yet, but there are signs of form creeping through, after Wiesberger finished 11th at the Hainan Classic and 25th a week later at the Soudal Open. In his last three events, he has ranked 9th, 1st, and 2nd in SG Approach and 37th, 22nd, and 9th in SG Tee to Green. Holding him back have been three woeful putting performances, and if he can get to grips with the greens here, he can be a factor.

A winner of this event over Matt Fitzpatrick back in 2019, Wiesberger has enjoyed his time playing in this part of the world, and at 100/1, I am definitely happy to give him a shot at turning it around on the greens and producing another win in this event. 6th, 14th, 15th, and 16th place finishes in this event outside of his win suggest he enjoys the Italian Open, even when it moves venues.

The Outsider: John Parry 55/1 (Paddy Power, Sky Bet 6 Places)

John Parry went into 2024 labelled as something of a Journeyman, having played across both the DP World Tour and HotelPlanner Tour for a number of years. He had won on both, winning on the then-named Challenge Tour in 2009, following up with a win on what was the European Tour, back in 2010. Then came a barren spell where he didn’t win again until a three-win season on the Challenge Tour in 2024. Parry then made a quick start to life at the top level again, winning in Mauritius in December, to kick off his 2025 DP World Tour season.

Since the turn of the year, Parry has threatened twice more, first when we were on at the Magical Kenya Open, and then again more recently at the Soudal Open, where Reitain won. Parry was in 2nd place and two strokes behind going into Sunday, but a final round 72 saw him finish 4th and three shots back.

He now returns to a course where he won last year, as the Italian Challenge Open was hosted here last September. While the weather promises to be different at this time of year, it is a huge help that Parry has seen and conquered this golf course before, and with that, his strong approach play in recent weeks, and the recent 4th place finish at the Soudal, I found him very hard to leave out at north of 50/1.

The Banker: Kristoffer Reitan 30/1 e/w (Paddy Power, Sky Bet 6 Places)

Kristoffer Reitan is enjoying a breakout season on the DP World Tour, picking up his first win on Tour at the Soudal Open, and backing that up with 2nd and 13th place finishes since.

Reitan now has three top-2 finishes in his last five starts, with a 2nd at the Hainan Open another impressive result in what has been a big year for the Norwegian. Now inside the top 100, the aim will be to qualify for majors, and he is working his way towards that.

He has been solid from tee-to-green of late, ranking 21st in SG Approach and 2nd in Tee to Green the week he won, and remaining steady in each category since. The biggest contributor to his form though, has been a razor-sharp putter, and if he can marry up his approach play with a strong performance on the green once again, he has a shot at winning a second time this season.

Until November 2024, Reitan hadn’t won anywhere, but he beat Angel Ayora and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen to sign off his Challenge Tour season with a win in the Grand Final, and he’s now added victory at the next level as well.

This is a new course for a lot of the field this week, including Reitan, but the short nature of it may well play into his hands, given his win at the Soudal Open.

In just one start in the Italian Open, Reitan finished 5th, back in 2020, and he will be looking for another top 5 finish in this event. Heading into that Italian Open back in 2020, Reitan has missed 4 of his last 5 cuts, with a best finish of T37. He now returns to this part of the world off the back of 5 straight made cuts, which include a win, two 2nds, a 13th, and a 33rd place finish. His floor looks very different now, and his ceiling is a win at this level. I like his chances again here, after a short break.

Bonus Bet: Oliver Lindell 70/1 e/w (Paddy Power, Sky Bet 6 Places)

I can’t resist going back to the well with Oliver Lindell, who continues to strike his irons really well and was well placed at halfway for us at the KLM Open last time out.

Lindell was in 6th place going into the weekend in Holland, but a 3rd round 82 completely halted any progress. Thankfully, it looks like an isolated round, as he bounced back with a 68 on Sunday, and his approach play was still good overall.

He has now ranked 15th or better in SG Approach in his last four events, ranking 2nd and 7th in his two most recent starts. It’s a similar story Tee to Green, as Lindell has ranked 17th or better in four straight events, improving over the past three starts.

While he doesn’t have any recent top 10s to hang your hat on, there are plenty of good signs, and when you couple that with a 6th place finish on this course last year on the Challenge Tour, you get a solid contender.

At 70/1, he’s worth chancing again.
