LIV Golf Greenbrier 2024: Is another sub-60 on the cards for Bryson in West Virginia?

The breakaway tour returns stateside for its penultimate regular season event at LIV Golf Greenbrier where Bryson DeChambeau shot an historic 58 to win in 2023.

Bryson DeChambeau added his name to another record in golf’s history books last time around at LIV Golf Greenbrier when he destroyed the Old White course with a 12-under-par 58 to capture his first LIV Golf title.

In doing so, Bryson joined an exclusive club of just four players including Jim Furyk to achieve the feat, and with confidence already high after adding a second US Open title to his resume, few will bet against him going low again.

Following a spectacular collapse on his final nine holes at the Olympic Golf at Le Nationale, LIV Golf UK Champion Jon Rahm will be keen to bounce back with a victory that propels him closer to first place in the individual standings. Rahm admitted that his stretch of play from the second round to the back nine of the final round was “probably about as good as I’ve played since early last year.” He remains the only player to have finished in the top 10 of every LIV event this year.

Other players tipped to go well this week include Rahm’s teammate and Nashville Champion Tyrrell Hatton who has secured points in every single LIV tournament this season and has finished third or better in the last three events. The only other LIV player to return from Paris with a top-10 finish was current leader Joaquin Niemann who has notched up the 162 birdies this season – more than any other player. The man from Chile will need to keep the momentum going for a few more weeks still if he’s to hold off Rahm from stealing the title in his debut season.

Jon Rahm wins his first LIV event, picking up $4,000,000 in prize money for victory at LIV Golf UK by JCB.

After being handed a one-tournament suspension for “violating the league’s anti-doping policy during LIV Golf Nashville,” Graeme McDowell’s vacancy on Smash GC is set to be filled by American John Catlin.

What is the format of LIV Golf Greenbrier?

With the addition of a 13th franchise – Rahm’s Legion XIII, the 2024 field rises to 54 players, inclusive of the two wildcard players – Anthony Kim and Hudson Swafford, who compete as unsigned individuals.

The team-assigned players compete in two competitions simultaneously- an individual event and a team event. Each stroke counts in the individual event, whereas in the team event, only the combined scores of the team’s top three players count for rounds 1 & 2, with all four scores counting in the final round of each event.

Each event is played over 54 holes, with no cuts and shotgun starts. For more information, check out our LIV Golf: Everything You Need to Know page.

Where is LIV Golf Greenbrier played?

Only four players in last year’s 48-man field failed to finish below par for the tournament with 22 players finishing 10-under or better.

The individual winner in Florida is set to receive a $4 million share, ranging down to $50,000 for those finishing at the wrong end of the leaderboard.
