LIV Golf makes fresh move for Official World Golf Ranking points

OWGR chairman Trevor Immelman says the organization will review the submission from LIV Golf to “ensure fairness, integrity and consistency”.
Maybe the reunification of golf is not that close after all after it was revealed on Friday that LIV Golf has once again applied to be included in the Official World Golf Ranking system.
A statement from the OWGR’s new chairman, Trevor Immelman, confirmed that the organization had “received an application on June 30, 2025”.
It read: “The Official World Golf Ranking Board is committed to a thorough evaluation process of all applications, and LIV’s application will be reviewed in accordance with OWGR’s criteria to ensure fairness, integrity and consistency.
“We appreciate the interest of LIV Golf – and all tours – in contributing to the global landscape of men’s professional golf through OWGR. Further updates will be provided as the review progresses.”
LIV Golf had previously applied for Official World Golf Ranking points under former commissioner Greg Norman. But Immelman’s predecessor, Peter Dawson, said at the time that while “LIV players are self-evidently good enough to be ranked, they’re just not playing in a format where they can be ranked equitably with the other 24 tours and thousands of players trying to compete on them”.
Norman’s replacement, Scott O’Neill, said when former Masters champion Immelman was appointed in April that he would reignite the conversation about getting LIV Golf events included in the ranking system.
As it stands, the league’s players can only earn points in majors, Asian Tour events and, like Patrick Reed, Tyrrell Hatton and Sergio Garcia in recent weeks, on the DP World Tour.
Bryson DeChambeau, at 15, and Hatton, at 22, are the only LIV players still in the world’s top 50. The likes of Brooks Koepka at 276, Dustin Johnson at 957, and Phil Mickelson at 1,232 have suffered seismic tumbles.
After this week’s LIV Golf event at Andalucia, a record number of the league’s stars will head to Royal Portrush for the 153rd Open.
