‘I was so drunk!’ Golf star admits to throwing up during PGA Tour showpiece event

The celebrity-laden Pebble Beach Pro-Am is often seen as a hit-and-giggle – and DP World Tour star Marcel Siem was going to make sure he enjoyed his week on the California coast…
Life is never dull when Marcel Siem is around.
The popular 44-year-old, who has become something of a cult figure on the DP World Tour in recent years, is having somewhat of a resurgence in his career.
His victory at the Indian Open in 2023 was his fifth on the European circuit and first for almost a decade. The German followed it up with a sixth title at last year’s Italian Open, which he will defend this week at Argentario Golf Club.
And speaking on the DP World Tour’s podcast, Siem couldn’t resist telling hosts George Harper Jr and fellow pro Nicolas Colsaerts a story from his week at the 2015 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
“I had three course records in my life, completely hammered without sleep,” he claimed. “The best one was Pebble Beach. I puked twice in that round.”
Siem went on to explain that he and his caddie, Guy Tilston, had gone out the night before “and started straight away with Long Island Iced Teas and five pints and then ended up with Champagne,”.
He went on to add that the pair finished their drinking session at 6am, just two hours before their third-round tee time.
That will do it.
“It was horrendous,” Siem confirmed. “Seriously, I was so drunk.”
Colsaerts chimed in: “Plus Pebble Beach is six-hour rounds.”
Siem added that he was playing with surfing GOAT Kelly Slater. “That was pretty cool – but he didn’t know. I told him after the round, [but] I mean he must have smelled it.”

In the comments section of the podcast clip that was posted on Instagram, Slater wrote: “Haha! You told me during the round – I think you forgot!”
Siem carded rounds of 67-73-63-70 to finish in a tie for 18th.
Now, about that course record.
It also appears that Siem’s boozy night affected his memory of the day.
The story began with him claiming he “three-putted the last to shoot 61” before correcting himself to say “62”. In fact, both were wrong. It was a 63 – one shy of the course record held by Tom Kite and David Duval, and since matched by Patrick Cantlay and Matthias Schwab. (Wyndham Clark carded a 60 in last year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but it doesn’t count as an official record because preferred lies were in play.)
Still, he insists that he “didn’t even know about it” and was asked to come in and do post-round interviews.
“[I said], ‘I just want to go to bed, guys!’ And they said, ‘No, no, no, interviews! You just shared the course record with Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, 30 legends.’ I said, ‘I just three-putted the last you ****heads! Why didn’t you tell me that before? I would have [gone] for the eagle!’”
Back in the comments, Slater wrote: “He also forgot to mention he didn’t make a birdie after 13 or 14 and was on 59 watch for half the round. Flopped an eagle in from deep rough on 6. From memory he was maybe 6-under through 7. A wild round.”
Siem replied: “It was a crazy round of golf! Mega fun. Hope you are well, brother.”
Former Premier League footballer turned YouTube golfer Jimmy Bullard simply added: “Absolute legend!”
