Two weeks ago he led at Portrush – now he’s caddying at the Women’s Open

Jacob Skov Olesen topped the leaderboard on the opening day of the Open Championship. Now, he’s turned to a bagman role at Royal Porthcawl.

Welsh professional golfer Darcey Harry is emerging as one of the most exciting young talents on the Ladies European Tour. The 22-year-old secured her first LET title at the 2025 Hulencourt Women’s Open in Belgium, with her boyfriend, Danish golfer Jacob Skov Olesen, on the bag for the first time.

Harry turned professional in late 2024 following a successful amateur career that included a win on the Santander Golf Tour. Her win in Belgium was a breakthrough, made even more memorable by the dynamic of having Olesen as her caddie. Following the win, she said she had learned a lot from having her partner on the bag, and joked that Olesen “was very good, so he’s not going to be allowed to go back to playing now”.

Jacob Skov Olesen made headlines himself at the 2025 Open Championship by finishing the first round tied for the lead after an impressive score of 67 at Royal Portrush. It was a remarkable achievement for the 26-year-old, who only turned professional in late 2024 and entered the championship ranked outside the top 300 in the world. It was his second major appearance – both of which have come at The Open – and he made the cut both times.

In 2024, Olesen became the first Dane to win The Amateur Championship, which was held at Ballyliffin. Since turning professional, he has earned his DP World Tour card and already recorded several top-10 finishes, including a tie for seventh at the Joburg Open.

Speaking to the media ahead of the tournament in South Wales, Harry shared what she’d learnt from Olesen’s performance at Royal Portrush.

“The second day, he had a really nerve-racking tee shot and kind of made a mess of the 1st hole. He spoke to me about it, and I’ve learned a lot off of it.

“We’ve kind of spoken of the game plan and learned from what he was challenged with last week, or two weeks ago. It’s kind of stay out of those pot fairway bunkers and just play as safe as possible, really try to hit as many fairways. It’s kind of the goal for this week.”

There’s also a little bit of competitiveness between the pair, with Harry beating the DP World Tour player in the race to a first tour title.

“We did have a competition who would win their first competition, and I did win that one, which was nice. I think it’s just we both drive each other on.”

“Whoever does the best pays for dinner. That’s kind of the little competition we have going on.”

Local golfer Harry takes to the links this week as part of the 144-player field at the AIG Women’s Open, with Olesen back on the bag. With her boyfriend as caddie, and the final women’s major of the season being played at her home course of Royal Porthcawl, could this be a winning combination?
