The R&A have announced Royal St George's as the host venue for the 2027 AIG Women's Open

Royal St George’s will welcome the biggest stars of the women’s game for the final major of the year.

The AIG Women’s Open will be played at Royal St George’s Golf Club, one of Britain’s best links, in 2027, the R&A have revealed. The Kent links course, which has hosted The Open 15 times – fourth in the all-time list – will host the women’s major for the first time from July 28 to August 1.

St George’s, which hugs the Sandwich coastline, is widely considered the best golf course in England and has provided a host of sensational championships down the years, most recently when Collin Morikawa lifted the Claret Jug, his second major title, in 2021. The venue has seen many of the game’s greats crowned Champion Golfer of the Year, including Darren Clarke, Greg Norman, Sandy Lyle, Bobby Locke, and Harry Vardon.

Now the course will test the likes of Lottie Woad, Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, and Charley Hull as they compete for one of the sport’s biggest titles.

Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, is keen to continue taking the Women’s Open to some of the most elite venues in Britain.

“The AIG Women’s Open is a global sporting event and we are committed to giving the best players in the world the best stages on which to compete. Royal St George’s is one of the world’s great links courses and will provide a fantastic test for the players.

“We look forward to working with AIG to put on a wonderful championship for the fans on the south coast of England in two years’ time.”

Peter Zaffino, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AIG, highlighted the shared vision between AIG and The R&A to advance the women’s game.

“Bringing the AIG Women’s Open to Royal St George’s reflects The R&A and AIG’s continued shared commitment to elevate women’s golf by holding the Championship at the world’s most iconic venues.

“This course is a historic venue which will showcase the expertise of the world’s best players and inspire spectators and supporters. All of our AIG colleagues around the world are proud to help raise the standard of professional women’s golf as we continue our journey as title sponsor.”

Established in 1887 by Laidlaw Purves, Royal St George’s has a long history of hosting huge golf events. Alongside The Open, it’s welcomed The Amateur Championship, The Women’s Amateur Championship, the Curtis Cup, and the Walker Cup.

The 2027 venue was revealed ahead of this week’s AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl. The famous Welsh links – our No.1 in Wales – is also hosting the Championship for the first time, before it heads to Royal Lytham and St Annes for a sixth time in 2026 (July 29-August 2).
