Tiger Woods out of Genesis Invitational

The GOAT had committed to his first start of 2025, but has since decided he is not ready.
Tiger Woods has decided he is “not ready” to play in this week’s Genesis Invitational.
Organisers of the tournament, which will take place at Torrey Pines following the wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles, including areas close to regular host venue Riviera Country Club, had initially announced Woods as in the field across social media.
But Woods, who lost his mother, Kultida, last week, later revealed that he would not be playing as he is “still processing her loss”.
The 15-time major champion also says he hopes to be at Torrey Pines later in the week in his role as tournament host.
Woods made just five starts last year, which included the four majors as well as the Genesis, where he withdrew during the second round due to illness.
It is one of the few tournaments Woods has never won – though he does have a good track record at Torrey Pines, where he has won eight times as a pro – including the 2008 US Open – and once as a junior.
Woods has been back in action since his season-ending back surgery in September. He teamed up with his son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship in December, where they finished second, as well as representing Jupiter Links in the inaugural TGL season.
Woods also teed up with Donald Trump in Florida ahead of the president attending the Super Bowl in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
