Prince's has been added to the list of prestigiouos Walker Cup venues.

The R&A has signed up another world-class golf course to host the Walker Cup…

The roster of courses to have held the Walker Cup is as good as any golf tournament.

The Old Course, Seminole, Hoylake, LACC, Lytham, Merion, Royal County Down, Ganton. And that’s just since the turn of the century alone.

Dig deeper into the history books and you’ve got Sunningdale, Pine Valley, Cypress Point, Shinnecock Hills, Turnberry, Muirfield, Birkdale, Winged Foot.

The venues for the upcoming matches reads like a billionaire’s bucket list, too.

And now we can add Prince’s to that list.

The stunning 27-hole links on that historic stretch of Kent coastline hosted The Open when Gene Sarazen famously lifted the Claret Jug en route to becoming the first player to win the modern-day Grand Slam.

And now Prince’s – which has undergone a significant redevelopment programme since 2017, including upgrades to the clubhouse and to enhance its three nine-hole layouts – will pit the best amateur golfers of Great Britain and Ireland against their American counterparts in 2030 after successfully hosting the Women’s Amateur Championship for a fourth time two years ago.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, the R&A’s executive director of championships, said Prince’s “is a venue which boasts an impressive pedigree, from the facilities off the course to the challenge on the wonderful links, and it promises to be a fantastic occasion when the match is played there”.

The club’s general manager, Rob McGuirk, added: “It’s an absolute privilege to be invited to host the Walker Cup in 2030.

“To be among the esteemed hosts of what is perhaps the most revered men’s amateur competition in the game is a source of immense pride for everyone associated with Prince’s Golf Club.

“We have worked closely with The R&A on a number of championships in the past and we look forward to continuing that relationship in the years ahead to ensure a great match is held.”

Cypress Point will host the Walker Cup for a second time in 2025, before the competition returns to even-numbered years and a run of four straight first-timers, including Lahinch, Bandon Dunes, Prince’s and Oakmont.

Two-time hosts Chicago Golf Club and Pine Valley have also been selected to hold the 2036 and 2044 editions respectively.
