You might be forgiven for thinking you’ve accidentally tuned into the baseball when flicking over to the golf this weekend…

Jhonnatan Vegas and Eric Cole are among the players at the PGA Championship sporting MLB logos on their shirts.

But why?

It’s obviously a sponsorship deal, we hear you cry.

Well, not quite.

But also sort of.

It’s more of an ambassadorial role than a sponsorship agreement. The arrangement will typically see golfers, as well as wearing the organization’s logo on their shirts, entertain MLB officials and clients with a round of golf or two throughout the year.

In return, the golfers will get free tickets to watch their favorite MLB team.

According to Sports Illustrated, Shawn Stefani and Peter Malnati are regulars at the games of the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals respectively.

Vegas – who led the PGA Championship through 18 holes thanks to a 7-under 64 on Thursday – is also an Astros fan.
