Hawkstone Park Hotel & Country Club, the top Shropshire venue where Sandy Lyle learnt the game, has been bought by Principal Hotels for an undisclosed sum.

Situated in 400 acres of splendid Shropshire countryside, the hotel boasts two 18 hole courses, a six-hole academy course plus conference and event facilities, restaurants and a unique 100 acre park and follies.

Former Open and Masters champion Lyle was brought up at Hawkstone where he was taught by his father Alex, the club pro there for over 30 years.

The hotel currently has 66 rooms though its new owners will invest in a planned expansion to over 120 rooms as well as brand new spa facilities and conference suites – part of Principal’s new stratgey of developing golf destinations which already includes Selsdon Park in South Croydon, Surrey.

Hawkstone Park enjoys a peaceful countryside location but is close to Manchester and Birmingham, being easily accessible from the M6 and M54 motorways.
