Apr3 Arnie to startMasters

By Chris Jones at Augusta

After weeks of speculation Arnold Palmer has finally revealed he will be the Honourary Starter at The Masters on Thursday.

Palmer has played in 50 consecutive tournaments, a record only tied this week by Gary Player. He’s also won it four times.

“The time was right to make this decision,” said the 77-year-old. “Augusta is one of my favourite places and the Masters has meant so much to me personally throughout my career.

“I have always been treated so warmly here by the patrons. I hope in some way I can show my gratitude to the fans who have followed and supported me.”

Palmer will be the seventh Starter at the event, joining the likes of Byron Nelson, Gene Sarazen and Sam Snead.
