Luke Donald is looking to rekindle the form he showed in his first Masters two years ago when he tied for third place.

The Englishman was outside the top 40 last season and uncharacteristically missed two cuts in a row earlier this year, but he is still confident that he could be running into some form at exactly the right time.

“My game is coming together and I hope I’m in with a chance of winning my first Major title, come Sunday,” he said. “Everything is going to plan, the game feels just fine, and the putting is getting better and better. My coach is coming in just to iron out any last things I need to work on to hit my best.

“I was having a poor spell with the putter but I didn’t let it worry me. I knew things would turn around. After trying out a few other designs, I decided to stick with the Bettinardi C-03 I’ve used since the Ryder Cup.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time on the putting green, lining up putts from under 15 feet – which I haven’t been doing properly recently. I’ve always had a tendency to aim right and pull my putts just a little. Aiming properly makes my stroke better as it goes down the line better.

Obviously you need to be mentally well prepared for the Masters. I
talked to Jim Fannin on Sunday night and we went over the game plan that I feel I need if I’m going to be successful. I think it is very important for me to have a lot of fun this week. Often you get to a major and you try to so hard to be the best prepared that you forget to have some fun, but, instead, start stressing about all the little things. I think the reason why I was so successful in 2005 was that I was so excited to be there, that I had such an energy that drove me to play well.
