Apr3 Masters diary2
Last updated:
At last we come to a Masters where the weather looks as though it is going to be dry all week – or at least that’s what the guy of the weather channel reckons. It has rained in Masters week in every one of the last 10 years. Some say the new lengthened Augusta badly needs a dry year, so that the shorter hitters have some sort of chance, and it looks possible this could be it.
Not many people realise this, but quite apart from his two victories (in 2006 and 2004) Mickelson has been pretty consistent in the Masters. In his last 12, dating back to 1995, he has finished in the top-12 on 11 occasions. He’s in the press conference soon – you’ll be able to hear some audio from it here later.
In the press tent, the guys in charge of the big scoreboard are practising. In first place is G New Jersey, and there is a tie for second between N. Tennessee, L. Nevada, M. Florida and B. Ireland. Maybe this is a good omen for Padraig? E.Scotland is 9th, alongside R Italy.
