Apr5 Belfrybuy-out

The De Vere Belfry is no more. From today the world-famous Ryder Cup venue will be known plainly and simply as…The Belfry.

This is the result of the Quinn Group and De Vere announcing that they have mutually agreed terms for the buy-out by Quinn of the management agreement at the superstar Warwickshire complex.

Quinn bought The Belfry from De Vere in 2005 and entered into an agreement for De Vere to manage the property.  But following the buy-out, Quinn will manage the Hotel directly and De Vere will receive further undisclosed capital to redeploy in the refurbishment of the De Vere collection.

Quinn, whose frontman is mega-rich Irish entrepeneur Sean Quinn, has big plans to  redevelop The Belfry. ”And we wish them all the best with their plans for that,” said Michael Bibring, partner in the Alternative Hotel Group.  AHG took De Vere private last year.

De Vere will continue its substantial refurbishment and rebranding of the De Vere collection, comprising De Vere Venues, the country’s largest supplier of conference and training venues, De Vere Heritage and De Vere Deluxe.

The Quinn Group commented:“The Belfry is one of Europe’s leading golf courses and conference centres. It has been host to four Ryder Cups and currently hosts the Quinn Direct British Masters. We intend to further enhance its reputation by developing a world class hotel and leisure complex.“

Besides the Ryder Cup Brabazon layout, The Belfry is the home of two other 18 hole courses – the PGA National and The Derby – and boasts some of the best practice facilities in Europe.
