Apr6 Rose and Howell together

By Chris Jones at Augsuta

Justin Rose and David Howell will form an all-British dream team when they tee off for the third round of the Masters this afternoon.

Rose is at level par, while Howell is one over and three off the lead, held by Brett Wetterich and Tim Clark.

Rose said: “I’m really happy. I think we got the tough end of the draw yesterday. The greens were rock hard, fast, and spiked up in the evening. But to shoot three-over and not have a birdie was probably a decent round.”

Howell added: “I’ve got the ball round this course pretty darned well in the last couple of days. I am in the hunt, which is wonderful. I just need to start driving the ball straighter. Generally when I do well in tournaments, that’s what I do well, so I need to try and turn that around over the weekend.”

Paul Casey will again partner Tiger Woods when play gets underway at 3pm UK time. Casey out-scored the world number one by six shots yesterday, shooting 68 to Woods’ 74, and he’s feeding off the challenge.

Adam Scott and Charles Howell III will be the first players to go out in round three of the 2007 Masters – traditionally known as “moving day”. The young stars made yesterday’s cut right on the number at +8.

The first Brit out is 1988 champion Sandy Lyle, 55, – it’s the first time he’s played at the weekend since 2004 – and Fred Couples, whose record of cuts made goes back 23 years.
