Justin Rose bogeyed the last to shoot a level-par72 today – but he’s still right up there after two rounds of the Masters.

The Brit – who was leading at three under after round one – dropped a shot at the first, but then kept it together with pars all the way to the 18th.

It should have been even better, as he missed two four-footers later on in the round. But when his approach to the last found the margin at the back, he knocked hit first putt five-feet past and missed the return.

Yet in another seriously tough day at Augusta National, Rose only finds himself two shots off the lead, which is held by Brett Wetterich and Tim Clark.

Just three players are under par after 72 holes, the other being Wetterich’s Ryder Cup team-mate Vaughn Taylor.

There’s also four players at level par, including Rose, Vijay Singh, Zach Johnson – who bogeyed his last three holes – and Jerry Kelly.

The one thing that links every player is their feeling that this year, Augusta National is playing tougher than ever.

With the distance they added last year – taking the course to 7,445 yards – the hard, fast fairways and super slick greens are making scores among the highest we’ve ever seen here.

There was only a handul of rounds in the 60s today, including a 69 by Kelly, and 68s by Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington.
