Apr7 Applebyupdate

Stuart Appleby says Tiger Woods won’t even know he’s there when the two of them go out in the final group of the 2007 Masters on Sunday.

Appleby has earned a spot in the final group after a best-of-the-day 73 in brutal conditions – despite a triple bogey on 17.

And afterwards the deadpan Aussie said: “Tiger will be doing his own thing. I don’t even think he’ll know I’m there – but I’ll know he’s there!”

Despite a triple bogey on the 17th on Saturday, when he hooked is tee shot into a bunker on the next fairway, Appleby finished the day at +2 and alone at the top of the field.

Woods is on +3 – but will go out in the final round because of all the players on that number, he finished first.

Appleby also compared sunny Augusta to St Andrews on a winter day after the bitter breeze brought temperatures here plummeting.

He said: “We were battling the conditions, the course, everything. I thinned a bunker shot on 17 and it stung my fingers. It was really cold out there – I don’t know how the patrons could stand it down in the trees by 15 and 16.

“You were just dodging bullets all day – there was no escape anywhere.”
