Tiger Woods is looking for a hat-trick of wins at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, and says the treelined nature of the Firestone Country Club suits his eye.
The world number one has won five times in eight starts at the Ohio venue and is relishing the opportunity to defend his crown on Thursday.
“Each and every year I’ve played this course it just seems to have worked out. I don’t know what it is about this course, it just looks right. Certain courses fit your eye, and it’s hard to explain, but this is one of them for me.
“I think it’s just because I love old, traditional golf courses. It’s treelined and there are no elephant burial grounds out there. It’s right there in front of you and you just have to go play. I’ve always felt comfortable here.”
The tournament is Woods’ first outing since his 12th-placed finish at the Open Championship, and the 31-year-old will be looking for a good performance in Akron with the USPGA just a week away.
