Donnington Grove Country Club near Newbury, Berkshire, one of the most popular play-and-stay golfing destinations in the UK, is set to benefit from a significant investment to upgrade its clubhouse and hotel.
Featuring an 18-hole PGA European Tour approved golf course designed by Dave Thomas, whose credits include the Ryder Cup Brabazon Course at The Belfry, Donnington Grove is among leading travel operator Golfbreaks.com’s top 20 destinations and is a favoured venue for group and company outings in the Thames Valley and M4 corridor.
The clubhouse and hotel, part of a stately home built in the 1760s, will now be upgraded with a new pro shop, 80-seat restaurant, spike bar, a large indoor golf coaching and training facility, refurbished men’s and women’s changing rooms, plus 40 additional hotel bedrooms.
Christopher Strong, general manager, said: “The new clubhouse means golfers and visitors will enjoy even better facilities at Donnington Grove.
“While we are already a popular destination for golf breaks and group outings, this upgrade of the clubhouse will enhance the experience for visitors and, combined with our outstanding golf course, create one of the best golf venues in the south of England.”
Subscriptions for membership at Donnington Grove has been reduced with full playing rights now available without a joining fee. A special visitor’s Gold Card scheme enabling golfers to play on a pay-as-you-go basis has also been launched and is proving successful.
The 550-acre Donnington Grove Estate, on the outskirts of Newbury, is overlooked by the historic Donnington Castle and features a mixture of parkland, farmland and woodland, with the River Lambourn, offering outstanding chalk stream fishing, running through it.
