Burnt body found at Carnoustie

By Kit Alexander

Greenkeepers discovered the burnt body of a dead man on the Buddon course at Carnoustie early on Wednesday morning.

Tayside Police cordoned off the area and closed the course but the neighbouring Championship and Burnside courses have since reopened.

“Officers attended at the course shortly after 6.40am and found the body, which had been badly burned,” said a police spokesman.

“At the same time as carrying out a meticulous examination of the scene, efforts are now under way to try and establish the identity of the deceased.”

Tayside Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area on Wednesday morning and may have any information to contact them.

The par-66 Buddon course, which is primarily used by locals, was designed by Peter Alliss and opened in 1979.
