Dec7 Bebb leads in S Africa

Sion E. Bebb shot a 5-under 67 Thursday to lead by one stroke after the opening round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

The Welshman had six birdies and one bogey at the European Tour event after an early start allowed him to avoid the 104-degree heat.

Omar Sandys of South Africa and Craig Lee of Scotland each shot 68 at the Leopard Creek Country Club. Ernie Els (70) is tied for eighth.

Cabrera leads Argentina Open

U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera shot a 4-under 66 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead over Argentine countryman Eduardo Romero after the first round of the Argentina Open.

Cabrera, the 2001 and 2002 champion, had an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys on the Buenos Aires Golf Club course.

Argentine amateur Esteban Martinez was two strokes back at 68 along with countrymen Andres Romero and Sebastian Fernandez, England’s Ben Parker, Colombia’s Diego Venegas and France’s Bertrand Coathalem.

The tournament is sanctioned by the Tour de las Americas, the PGA European Challenge Tour and the TPG of Argentina.
