RockTron hosts Europe’s first carbon neutral tournament

Farrington Golf and Country Club, Bristol, hosted Europe’s first zero carbon golf tournament on June 24.
The charity tournament was hosted by RockTron, a mineral reprocessing company, in aid of Rethink, a charity that provides support for over 50,000 people with mental health problems throughout the UK.
RockTron took care to ensure the event was completely carbon neutral by encouraging players to carpool and purchasing 14 tonnes of carbon credits to offset the total carbon footprint. This allowed for over 12,000 miles for people travelling to the event.
Over 40 players took part in the ‘by invitation only’ competition, which was won by the Rethought team of Philip Michael, Alan Lidgley, Philip Morgan and Terry Lawson.
Wyn Turnbull, RockTron’s Director of Engineering, said: “We’ve had a tremendous day! – A first for British and European Golf. We wanted to create a piece of environmental sporting history and help a very worthwhile cause in Rethink. We have done just that! I would like to thank the players and indeed everyone involved for all their support in making this tournament a great success. We look forward to seeing you all next year.”
