Golf Foundation returns to The Open

By Kit Alexander

The Golf Foundation will be catering for junior golfers at The Open  this year at Royal Birkdale from 13-20 July.

The Foundation will operate from the R&A Junior Golf Centre, located in the tented village, and will offer youngsters the chance to play Tri-golf, putt for prizes and learn more about the game.

Tri-golf is a lively and colourful way to introduce the next generation to golf. At recent Opens the likes of Ian Poulter, Adam Scott, Paul Lawrie and Ross Fisher have taken part in challenges with the children.

Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said: “The R&A provides us with this wonderful facility each year and the whole team is highly focused on getting the most out of this priceless opportunity.

“Here we can highlight all the junior grass roots work that we carry out during the rest of the year in schools, community projects and golf clubs, while at the same time we can offer a first go at golf for youngsters attending The Open with their families.”

The Foundation will be sharing the R&A Junior Golf Centre with the PGA, who will be offering free lessons to youngsters throughout the week.
