Harrington puts himself back in position

After a very disappointing first round 78, Open Champion Padraig Harrington put himself right back in the hunt at Torrey Pines after a near-perfect 4-under-par 67 in the second round. Taking advantage of an early morning start on the 10th tee, he had four birdies at the 13th, 18th 2nd and 7th and no bogeys. In fact, it could have been even better, because on his final hole (9th) he had a very makeable 8-foot birdie putt which he pushed round the right edge of the hole.
“Strrangely, I felt like I played better yesterday,” he said somewhat perversely afterwards. “Yesterday was very difficult on the greens in the afternoon. They dried up and the sun was out and they were only going one way from there. That was putting a lot of pressure on the rest of my game. I came out today and played nicely. I was holing putts that I was missing yesterday. I was aiming for a 69 but a 67 is a nice return. Two more of those on the weekend will do me very nicely.”
