Jul12 Ernie goes square

Ernie Els has put Callaway’s square FT-I driver into play – and looks set to use it at the Open next week.

The Big Easy has been playing around with Callaway’s range since he switched from Titleist earlier in the year.

He has been playing the FT-5 driver for much of the season, but had gone to the square club at this week’s Scottish Open.

Previously Phil Mickelson was the biggest name in Callaway’s camp to go square, when he used the club at this year’s Masters.

Of the FT-5, Ernie said: “It has 8.6-degrees loft and a Fujikura Speeder shaft, 45.5 inches in length. “It’s incredible. I honestly think it’s the easiest driver I’ve ever hit and I definitely find that I’m hitting more fairways. It’s long through the air, too. I’m really excited about this club.”

We will find out what me makes of the square club at Carnoustie.
