Swede Johan Edfors is gunning for a Loch Lomond ‘double.’
Edfors won three times on the European Tour last year, his most momentous moment seeing him emerge a shock Scottish Open winner by the Bonnie Banks. And, despite another classy field, he fancies his chances of emulating his 2006 success.
He confirmed: “I’m not worried about the opposition. I can only do my best to try and shoot low scores. Besides, I know that if I’m on top of my game, I can beat all of them – as I showed last time.”
Like fellow countryman Bjorn Borg, the tennis legend, Edfors seems to have ice running through his veins and he certainly takes everything in his elegant stride. He also has the facial hair to match that of the former King of Wimbldon when he was in his prime on Centre Court.
Basically he’s not too fussed about the extra pressure he will be under as defending champion, adding: “It’s the first time I’ve defended a tournament and to honest I haven’t thought a lot about it.
“I always show up to win and have that aim in my mindset. Hopefully I will pick up the same vibes as I did last year. I had two weeks off before Ireland (European Open at the K Club) and I was striking the ball pretty good there. I’ve also just had a good session on the practice range here.
“I just love this place and my last visit to Loch Lomond was the best week of my life: I’ll never forget walking up to the 18th green and playing such a beautiful hole in front of all those people. I wouldn’t have minded whether I’d finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th. It would be great to do it all over again”…
