Less than 24 hours have passed since the UK smoking ban came into force and the fairways are now one of the few places you can enjoy a cigarette.
But with smokers now liable for an £80 on-the-spot fine for discarding or stubbing out cigarettes in public, a clever new product has been launched to help keep courses free from discarded butts and avoid that hefty fine.
The Stubbi Golf pocket astray is an anti-litter pouch with a fireproof lining designed to safely and hygienically extinguish cigarettes. Just 20 seconds without oxygen in the pouch is all it takes for the cigarette to go out. The pouch then stores up to five butts for later disposal.
Stubbi & Co Ltd managing director Ian McCormack says: “The Stubbi Golf is the perfect way for golfers to continue to enjoy smoking, but also take responsibility for not littering their course with discarded cigaretter butts. Golfers respect the integrity and rules of the game every time they play and we’re therefore confident that those who smoke will embrace the need to be litter conscious – or they risk being fined the price of a good putter!”
Major-winner and former Ryder Cup skipper Ian Woosnam is already a convert: “I don’t want to stop enjoying a cigarette or two on the course, but at the same time I like to keep it tidy around the greens. So the Stubbi Golf has been an essential addition to my golf bag.”
The Stubbi Golf fits neatly into a trouser pocker, golf bag or handbag and costs £1.50 from pro shops. Alternatively, you can save yourself 30p by buying the Stubbi Golf direct from www.stubbi.net
