Top South Wales venue Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club is undergoing major course changes.
Most of the work will centre around the par 68 Mathern Course which will undergo a comprehensive renovation programme designed to improve both the quality and condiiton of the layout.
The course surgery will cost about £750,000 and will involve the rebuilding of all 18 teeing areas, installation of automatic irrigation on all greens as well as the construction of additional bunkers plus the renovation and re-shaping of existing ones.
Extensive tree surgery is also planned to thin out existing trees. All the work is scheduled to be completed by early October with the course back in play by spring next year.
St Pierre’s grand Old Course will also be altered with both the 8th and 9th greens being completely reconstructed. However, the Old Course will undergo major refurbishment work in 2008.
St Pierre has staged some of golf’s biggest events, including the Solheim Cup and several European Tour tournaments.
