July26 Greens damaged

A government contractor mistook a herbicide for fertilizer and succeeded in scorching 36 greens at Hains Point Golf Course in Columbia, South Carolina.
Groundsmen from Golf Course Specialist Inc killed the grass on all of the greens at the popular venue which is one of the few public courses in the district.
Golf Course Specialist spokesman Michael Williams said his company regretted the incident and he also told The Examiner newspaper: “It was human error. We are on a program to minimize the impact on the golfers.”
Efforts have been made to lay new turf, although the grass cover will be too fragile for golfers to use for some time. As a result, green fees are reduced by 33% across the board.
