July3 Bonhams

By Jonathan Greathead

The 1937 Open Championship winner’s medal, won by Henry Cotton at Carnoustie, will be one of the items available at auctioneers Bonhams forthcoming golfing memorabilia sale.

The sale will take place at the offices in George Street in Edinburgh on July 13 to coincide with the return of the championship to Carnoustie this year for the first time since 1999.

The gold medal, won by the legendary Cotton, is expected to fetch between £25,000 and £30,000 and will be joined on the auction list by some other fantastic pieces of Carnoustie-related golfing memorabilia.

These include the first two in a new series of oil paintings by renowned Scottish artist Craig Cambell, as well as a set of 18th hole pin flags signed by the three Major winners from last year, Phil Mickelson, Geoff Ogilvy and Tiger Woods.

For further information on these or other items in the sale, please contact Rebecca Ruff on 0207 468 8210, or email press@bonhams.com.
