Former Anfield favourite Phil Babb presented England’s top lady golfer, Laura Davies, with a Liverpool shirt at the Ladies English Open.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international was taking part in the pro-am competition ahead of the tournament which starts tomorrow at Chart Hills – and was delighted to autograph the shirt for the avid Reds fan.
Davies said: “I’ve got one of Steven Gerrard’s, a Robbie Fowler, a Michael Owen, and one from when they won the Champions League two years ago – I’ve got a nice collection. And Phil was a great player for Liverpool so it’s really nice to have one from him as well.”
Davies’ love of the red side of Merseyside was not a choice of birth or design.
“In 1971 Liverpool lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup final; I was six-years-old and I felt sorry for them. I was six – what are you going to do?” she smiled.
“And they wore red and I’ve always liked red.”
Babb, who made 126 league appearances for the Anfield club in a six-year spell, was taking part in the pro-am.
