June 11 Garcia to win?

The fact that this is not your typical US Open course (by the sea, a bit linksy in feet etc) has got many thinking that this could be the year when a European wins the second major of the year, for the first time since Tony Jacklin nearly 40 years ago.

And if a Euro is going to win, there are few better placed than Sergio Garcia, the Spaniard who won the Players Championship (or fifth major) last month, and who has seemingly found a solution to his putting woes.

“It is a great feeling to be putting well,” he said on the eve of the tournament. “If you’re putting well you think about making birdies rather than making putts to save par. That’s a much better feeling to have and it adds confidence to your game. I have always tried to give myself chances to win majors and then try to win as many as possible. I’ve had my chances so that’s one goal accomplished. Now we have to try to get it to the next level. Hopefully we can now start winning majors.” We will see.
