Injury-riddled Englishman David Howell has targeted a return to action at the US Open at Oakmont on June 14.

The Ryder Cup star is recovering from a persistent back problem, and recently withdrew from defending his BMW Championship crown at Wentworth due to the injury.

On his website, the 31-year-old said:  “It would have been preferable to have had a tournament before heading for the US Open, but the year’s second Major at Oakmont is where I will return to the game.”
