June 4 Walton Heath

Nick Dougherty and Marcus Fraser lead a field of 52 US Open hopefuls at the midway stage of the Sectional Qualifier at Walton Heath, after the pair shot opening rounds of 66.

Dougherty made seven birdies in his round, four of which came on the back nine, but it could have been even better for the Englishman had he not three-putted for a bogey on the final hole of the Old Course.

Australian Fraser was also in fine form, with his six-under-par round coming on the New Course at the Surrey venue.

But Ryder Cup hero Darren Clarke has a busy final round ahead of him after slumping to a disappointing three-over-par 75.

Nine players will qualify from the event for the second Major of the year which starts on June 14 at Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
