Adam Scott and Fredrik Jacobson lead the St Jude Classic in Memphis after shooting opening rounds of 67.
But gusty conditions played havoc with the scoring, with only seven players breaking par at the Tennessee course.
Swede Jacobson picked up five birdies but dropped shots at the eighth and 14th to give him a first round of three-under par.
Australian Scott recovered from a double bogey at the second by claiming an eagle at the 554-yard third and also picked up further shots at the sixth, 10th, 13th and 16th.
South African Retief Goosen is a shot back with American Brian Gay, while Gavin Coles, Scott Verplank and Duffy Waldorf complete the batch of players under par after rounds of 69.
Brian Davis leads the British charge at level par, but Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington could only manage rounds of 74.
