Not-so-great Dane – he’s merely more very good at what he does – Anders Hansen’s dramatic win at Wentworth last weekend has put him in pole position to claim a place at the end-of-season HSBC World Match Play Championship bonanza.
Hansen has now celebrated two victories in the Euro Tour’s flagship tournament and will fancy his chances of contesting the HSBC over the West Course on October 11-14 when a whopping £1m, the richest first prize in golf, will be up for grabs.
The leading two European Tour players in the 2007 HSBC European Tournaments Ranking – which accumulates the Official World Golf Ranking Points earned from the HSBC Champions, Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, Johnnie Walker Classic, BMW PGA Championship, BMW International Open, Open De France ALSTOM and the Smurfit Kappa European Open – will qualify for the 16-strong field.
