2005 US Open champion Michael Campbell has taken a big swipe at the ultra-tough Oakmont Course which hosts this week’s US Open.

Oakmont was already a tough course but now it’s even more demanding and the Kiwi is far from happy, specially with the monster 262 metres par 3 8th hole.

Cambo said: “I’ve never played a 262metres par three before and I think it is getting too extreme now. I think the spectators want to see birdies and eagles, not bogeys and doubles.”

Cambo’s comments came following his first Oakmont practice round and he’s obviously worried that the intimidating Oakmont layout will cause a lot of grief among his peers when the action gets underway on Thursday.

Clearly fearing the worst, he added: “I think eight-over-par winning a golf tournament is a little over the top.”
