Alan Shearer, NSPCC Ambassador and keen golfer, officially launched the Midsummer Madness charity golf extravaganza in Newcastle today.
Alan is supporting a group of businessmen from the North East of England who are taking on a charity golfing tournament in a bid to raise an estimated £30,000 for the NSPCC. The event really is golf-gone-mad as the players will tee-off at 3.30am, taking in 100 holes before ending at 10.30pm.
The event will take place on 19 June 2007 at Burgham Park Golf Club, Northumberland and is being organised by golf and charity enthusiasts, Dennis Clark, who works for the NSPCC as a Special Events Manager and Peter Basford, Senior Manager, Corporate Personal Banking, Lloyds TSB.
Dennis said: “The idea of a 20-hour, 100 hole golf tournament started out as a bit of a joke between Peter and I, but the more people we spoke to about it, the more we realised it could become a reality. We really wanted to do something that challenged us whilst raising a substantial amount of money for the NSPCC.
“We have 12 people taking part now all of whom have a goal to raise £2,500 each, and have managed to secure support from a number of companies, for the use of the golf course, buggies and even a massage for the end of the challenge! ”
