New technology has been launched to give golf fans up-to-date information on the PGA Tour. Through TOURCast, web subscribers can get detailed real-time scoring direct from walking scorers, who use wireless handhelds to pass on information including shot number, stance, location and score.
It uses ShotLink, the Tour’s data collection programme, developed by IBM, which has done away with the need for paper records on the course. Lasers record the position of every ball and combine detailed data with feature maps of each tournament course.
