David Toms has taken over at the top at the US Open.
He is at three under after 11 holes. Angel Cabrera is at two under and there a gaggle of players at one under.
England’s Nick Dougherty has made a solid start and is one under after 13 holes. He is tied with Ernie Else and Retief Goosen.
It’s still very early days with many players still to start their opening round.
Tiger Woods is keeping it steady and is even par after nine holes. He knows it’s a long slog and that Oakmont will probably tield a winner around the even par mark.
The old adage – you can’t win it on the first day, but you can lose it is very apt. Colin Montgomerie, who almost won last year’s US Open, is five over after 11 holes and will have to conjure up something very special to make the cut.
