Last year: Sorenstam’s 30-foot birdie on the 18th hole lipped out and Pat Hurst made a tricky 5-foot par putt to force an 18-hole playoff after both finished at even-par 284 at Newport Country Club. The playoff ended quickly, with Sorenstam building a two-shot lead after one hole, leading by five at the turn and shooting a 1-under 70 to win by four shots. It was her 10th major.
