June6 Walesgolf

By Courses editor Kevin Brown

It’s all happening golfing-wise in Wales.

It’s just days after the successful staging of the Wales Open at Celtic Manor, the Newport venue which hosts the 2010 Ryder Cup – the first time the Ryder Cup has been contested in the valleys.

Meanwhile, one of Wales’ most outstanding golf clubs – Nefyn and District GC – is celebrating its centenary year this year.

Nefyn (pictured right), spectacularly located on a knockout stretch of North Wales coastline on the Llyn peninsula, was formed in April 1907 and has been providing great golf ever since: it currently uniquely offers a 26 hole layout including nine holes laid out on ‘The Point’ – a stretch of holes which breathtakingly tower above the sea, rocky outcrops and coves.

Nefyn is just one of many courses featured in the impresssive new Golf Wales book written By John Hopkins, The Times golf correspondent.

If you’re thinking about making a golfing visit to Wales, this could be the book for you: besides plenty of course information it also reveals the best places to eat and stay
