YOUNG GOLFER WINS NATIONAL CHARITY TOURNAMENT

Callum Wilkinson, 15, from The Gog Magog Golf Club in Cambridge has won a national charity golf tournament and raised £400 for Leonard Cheshire Disability.

Five thousand players battled it out in tournaments around the UK and Callum was one of 40 players who made the Golfability final. The event took place at the prestigious Woodhall Spa Hotchkin course in Lincolnshire.

The Golfability tournament, which has the full backing of the English golf union, raised £15,000 which will be used to continue the charity’s work with 21,000 disabled people at local services around the UK.

“I am delighted to have won the Golfability final. It was a terrific tournament and good opportunity to test our golfing skills whilst raising funds for charity,” says Callum who scored 41. “Thanks to everyone who took part.”

Karryn Spottiswood, events coordinator at Leonard Cheshire Disability, said:

“Callum played brilliantly and worked hard to win the tournament. We’d like to thank him and the finalists for all their commitment and support.”

Woodhall Spa has a special significance to the organisation, as Group Captain Lord Leonard Cheshire, the charity’s founder, took his title Baron Cheshire in memory of the RAF camp at Woodhall Spa, where he led the 617 Squadron.
