The four East Anglian championship football teams recently challenged each other to a different type of game – golf.
The teams from Colchester United, Ipswich Town, Norwich City and Southend United met at Ufford Park Golf Club near Woodbridge in Suffolk for the charity event in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Each football team provided eight players, and the results were:
1st Ipswich Town
2nd Norwich City
3rd Southend United
4th Colchester United
The best individual performance came from Richard Hall at Ipswich Town Football Club with 38 points followed closely by Simon Milton from ITFC and Mike Milligan from Norwich City both with 36 points.
Stuart Robertson, the head pro at Ufford Park said “Today’s performances were very varied: some were very good and but most players played over their allotted handicaps. Despite the strong winds, the teams all enjoyed the play and even in the extremely wet weather the course was excellent. We are considering running this event next year – maybe at Norwich City’s preferred golf course – we might even go around each course over the next three years. Its’ certainly been an entertaining day and a great fundraiser for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.”
The event, after which three signed football shirts were raffled during the post competition dinner, raised (figure to be given a.s.a.p.) for the East Anglian Air Ambulance bringing the total raised for the charity by Ufford Park to over £9,000 over the past 4 years.
